Football star, Neymar asked to testify by police over his IG video showing explicit WhatsApp messages and photos from woman who accused him of rape
The Rio de Janeiro's cybercrime police division has requested the presence of Neymar to testify about an Instagram video he shared showing explicit WhatsApp messages and photos he allegedly received from a woman who has accused him of raping her in a Paris hotel.
The woman told Sao Paulo police on Friday that Neymar raped her on May 15 at 8.20pm at the Sofitel Paris Arc De Triomphe hotel.
Investigator Paulo Sartori of Rio's cybercrime police division said that two of his agents visited Brazil's training ground on Monday, where the team is preparing for the Copa America.
After reports of the rape allegation surfaced on Saturday, Neymar published a seven-minute Instagram video in which he denied any wrongdoing. He showed explicit messages and images he says were exchanged with his accuser.
Vinicius Rodrigues, a spokesman for the Brazilian Football Confederation said, 'the CBF suggested that Neymar's testimony to Rio police, be postponed.'
Neymar's father, and the player's spokeswoman, Day Crespo, said they don't know when the player will speak to the Police.
Davi Tangerino, the player's lawyer, said Neymar will talk to police whenever investigators see fit.
'This incident will have its page turned soon,' Tangerino said.
