Offset advises Nigerian who begged him for money on Twitter

A Nigerian man took to Twitter to beg American rapper Offset for money and Offset gave him an advice instead. It all began after Offset told his followers to ask him anything. Others asked him about himself and his career. But a Nigerian man with the handle @Chukwuemeka01 replied to beg for money. He tweeted: "Bro I need money." Offset replied: "Gotta grind or find a job until u can fund your dream." But Chukwuemeka wasn't giving up and he begged again, writing: "Boss its for high school pls." But Nigerians were done with the disgrace Chukwuemeka was bringing on them so they called him out. Chukwuemeka, who had also tweeted at Don Jazzy asking for money, went on to change his Twitter handle, username  after he got attention for his begging.

WAEC releases May/June WASSCE results, withholds 180, 205

 A total of 1,020,519 candidates who sat for the 2019 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for schools obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.  Mr Olu Adenipekun, Head of National Office , West African Examinations Council (WAEC), gave the figure while announcing the release of the results at a news conference on Friday in Lagos.  He said that there was an improvement in candidates’ performances in 2019 when compared to that of 2018 in the same examination. Trial to begin in US after FBI discovered human organ shop with buckets of heads, cooler of penises and sewn corpses

A trial is set to begin after the FBI discovered a human chop shop with buckets of heads, cooler of penises and corpses sewn like "Frankenstein".  The FBI made the gruesome discovery in 2014 when they raided a Phoenix body-donation business. A trial date has now been set for October 21, 2019, in Maricopa County, Arizona.  At the time of the raid, the now-defunct, for-profit Biological Resource Center held 1,755 parts. The center made its business centered around accepting corpses, where they removed and sold body parts, and cremated the remains for those they did not sell.  Eyewitness account of the raid is now being brought to light after three families filed a civil lawsuit against Biological Resource Center and its owner, Stephen Gore; where they claim body parts were obtained through "false statements" and being sold for profit to various middlemen.  In addition, the families say, the body parts belonging to

Boko Haram attacks Maiduguri IDP camp, kills two

An attack launched at Dalori IDP camp, located near University of Maiduguri in Borno State by motorcycle-riding Boko Haram gunmen left two people dead.  The attack was confirmed by Abba Aji, a top commander of the Civilian-JTF, and he alleged that the insurgents broke in through the back perimeter fence at about 8 p.m. He further revealed that they first attacked the soldiers’ station near the camp before they moved in, shooting sporadically. Even though the camp is well guarded by soldiers, the insurgents allegedly operated, broke into shops, stole food items and left without being stopped.  “It happened a few minutes after 8 p.m. when they (Boko Haram) broke into the camp and killed two persons, an old man a very little child,” he told Premium Times.  “It is really a very sad development that this is still happening,” he added.  A security attached to the State Emergency Management Agency(SEMA), Bello Danbatta, also said;  “It was an unfortunate incident

Flood kills 13-year-old pupil in Edo State (Graphic)

A 13-year-old pupil identified as Egbadon Overcome has been killed by flood while on his way to school.  Late Overcome was a primary 3 pupil of Idumu Ague Primary School in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.  She was said to have been swept away by the flood after a heavy downpour.  Witnesses said the area was flooded during the rain, adding that the flood water must have been diverted to the area due to the construction of the new Agbor road.  Her body was removed by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.  Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Joan Oviaw said she has deployed field officers to unravel the cause of the death.  Dr. Oviawe who described the death as unfortunate said the state government would unravel the circumstances that led to the pupil’s death and prevent future reoccurrence.  “The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board r

Ex- Ghana goalkeeper Richard ‘Olele’ Kingston arrested by police

Former Black Stars goalkeeper and current goalkeeper trainer, Richard Kingston a.k.a Olele, was arrested alongside 21 other drivers for flouting motor traffic regulations. The traffic rule breakers were arrested at East Legon tunnel in Accra on Thursday morning, as confirmed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Simon Tenku of the Police Public Affairs Directorate.  It was further learnt that the impounded vehicles were sent to the East Legon police station, while 18 of the drivers have been processed for prosecution at the Abeka motor court.  “Today we didn’t get a lot of people driving on the shoulder, most of the drivers were just neglecting the road mapping and using the wrong directions and I am also glad that today we didn’t get a lot of uniform persons to compare to the last time we were here which is an improvement and we are happy about that and so far we have arrested 21 drivers process 18 for court today,” ASP Simon Tenku said.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday named chairpersons for the house standing and special committees. The standing committees were also increased from 96 to 105. The decision to increase the committees was contained in a report submitted by an ad-hoc committee mandated to review the house standing order. In the composition of the new committees, the speaker’s key loyalists were placed as heads of major committees such as Appropriation which is now chaired by Mukhtar Betara; Finance, James Faleke; Public Accounts, Oluwole Oke; Defence, Babajimi Benson and Army, Abdulrazak Namdas. Others are NDDC, Tunji Ojo; NEDC, Khadija Bukar and Electoral Matters, Aishatu Dukku. In terms of party affiliations, lawmakers of the ruling APC were appointed to 80 chairmanship positions. Emeka Ihedioha -I have no hand in the sealing of Okorocha’s schools by EFCC

Governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha, has denied the rumour that he was the brain behind the sealing of Rochas Foundation College, Owerri, East High Primary and Secondary schools, Owerri and All-In Supermarket by EFCC.  The schools and investments which belonged to the immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, and members of his family were sealed by the operatives of the anti-graft agency.  The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Chibuike Onyeukwu said there was no truth in the allegation that Ihedioha was behind the sealing of the assets which are traceable to his predecessor. According to the governor, it was a pure fallacy that he sponsored petitions to the EFCC against Okorocha which resulted in the sealing of the assets. Adams Oshiomole and Edo state governor Godwin Obaseki were all smiles today at the state house Abuja despite their silent battle for control of the Edo state House of Assembly. While a faction of the Assembly have pledged allegiance to the state governor, another faction have pledged their allegiance for Oshiomole. This has led to serious crisis in the Assembly with both parties parading a leader for the House of Assembly. President Buhari swears in Tanko Mohammed as Chief Justice of Nigeria

President Buhari has sworn into office Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed as the 18th substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The brief swearing-in ceremony took place in the Presidential villa this morning July 24th. The ceremony was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed. Mohammed, who took over from the immediate past and suspended CJN, Walter Onnoghen, was screened and cleared by the Senate on Wednesday July 17th.

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, has reacted to reports that President Buhari may be considering the proscription of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria other wise known as Shi'ites. There have been rumors that the President might ban the Islamic movement following the bloody clash the members had with men of the Nigerian Police in Abuja on Monday July 22nd. The protesting Shi'ites were demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who has been in detention since December 2015. US imposes visa restrictions on Nigerian politicians

The U.S. State Department on Tuesday, announced that it had imposed visa restriction on Nigerian politicians found culpable in sabotaging the 2019 election.  No name was passed off in the announcement, however Nigerian politicians affected by the visa restriction imposition are those indicted for electoral violence, rigging and other anti-democratic activities before, during and after the 2019 elections. “These individuals have operated with impunity at the expense of the Nigerian people and undermined democratic principles and human rights,” spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement. “The Department of State emphasizes that the actions announced today are specific to certain individuals and not directed at the Nigerian people or the newly elected government,” Ortagus added.

Tragedy was averted yesterday as a plane crash landed at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos. According to eyewitness accounts, the incident was brought under control, thanks to the expertise of the female pilot, though the plane lost its tyres after crash-landing. After the incident, a video shared online showed people commenting on the gender of the pilot. They were commenting in praise and said she did a commendable job. But OAP Daddy Freeze seemed to have misunderstood and thought they were blaming the mishap on the pilot's gender. He went on to react based on his understanding. Freeze said it's wrong to judge people based on their gender or tribe. He said: "The gender of the person officiating should not be an issue unless we're an oversensitive and ignorant people." He added: "Why must it be that the good pilot was a woman or an Igbo man or a Yoruba girl. Or a Fulani boy or a Hausa teenager.

Russian boxer Maxim Dadashev dies from brain injuries sustained in fight against Subriel Matias

Maxim Dadashev, the 28-year-old Russian boxer left fighting for his life after suffering a subdural haematoma in a 140-pound world title eliminator against Puerto Rican Subriel Matias at MGM National Harbor in suburban Washington on Friday, July 19, 2019, has been confirmed dead. His trainer Buddy McGirt, had to beg him to throw in the towel during the fight, after taking in a lot of punches to the face and head. Shortly after the fight, Dadashev was diagnosed with a brain bleed and underwent a 2-hour procedure that had the 'right side of his skull' removed by surgeons in hope of saving his life. However McGirt announced on Tuesday that Dadashev passed away from his injuries. Before his death, Dadashev was 13-1 in his boxing career and was considered one of the sport's bright young stars. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt's Zonal Office on Tuesday, July 23, 2019 arraigned 65-year-old Igweneme Moses before Justice A. T Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy and money laundering contrary to Section 18 and punishable under Section 15(2) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (As amended).  Specifically, Moses was docked for defrauding a Swiss, the sum of $240,700 (Two Hundred and Forty Thousand Seven Hundred American Dollars).  One of the count charges read: “That you, Igweneme Moses and Igweneme Nkiruka Blessing (now at large) between the 18th and 24th May, 2018 directly took possession of the sum of $38,000 (Thirty Eight Thousand US Dollars) which you knew or reasonably ought to have known is the proceeds of an unlawful act, to wit: obtaining money under false pretences from one Chantal Helene Meadery and thereb

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has joined other state governors in the South South, South East and South West, to reject the contentious Ruga settlement projects being proposed by the Buhari-led government. Lateef Jakande, the former Governor of Lagos state and Minister of Works clocked 90 years old today July 23rd.  Jakande became governor of Lagos State from 1979 to 1983 on the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN. He was also the Minister of Works under the Sani Abacha military regime from 1993 to 1998.  Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu and former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba were amongst the dignitaries that graced his 90th birthday party which held at the Haven Event Centre, Ikeja area of Lagos.
