Wayne Rooney has signed a deal for 18 months to become DC United player coach at Derby County.
In January 2020, when his time in Major League Soccer comes to an end, the former England and Manchester United captain will officially arrive as a player-coach.

Rooney said:' I'm very enthusiastic about the chance given me by Derby County.
Since the beginning of January, I look forward to joining Phillip Cocu, his coaching staff and the first-team team. I'm sure I can make a big contribution and can't wait to satisfy the followers in particular.
I'm just as excited to start my coaching career at Derby County working with both the first team and the academy.'' The business opportunities that this creates are widespread and significant,' said Derby Chairman Mel Morris.
We want to leverage Wayne's participation and 32Red support with our community projects.' Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien, D.C. United Co-Chairmen, said:' Having spoken to Wayne and understood his challenging condition of being so far away from his family, we have accepted that this is the best choice for all sides.
Wayne is an outstanding leader and one of the game's most famous players, so we look forward to his ongoing contributions to this season's squad.'
We've just been given a record-breaking sponsorship agreement with our main shirt sponsor, 32Red, on the back of Wayne joining the club.
Wayne Rooney, who has 23 goals and 14 assists for DC United in 43 appearances so far, is also the all-time record scorer for England with 53 objectives and the highest goal scorer for Man United with 253 goals in 559 appearances.
